I tried and enjoyed in San Francisco/Bay area:
Bar Agricole (11th street) - nice patio - very design. good food. interesting wine list and cocktails (small glasses!) San Francisco south of Mission. A sort of a much larger "Avec" in Chicago.
Seoul Garden, inside Japan Center (Myako Hall 2nd floor) 1655 Post St. Nice Korean BBQ. well ventilated. Pleasant staff. Fresh ingredients. many kinds of Soju - prefer Jinro FRESH
Le Garage, Bistro Francais 85 Liberty ship way, #109. terrace, on water side. Lively bar and small outside lounge. Nice wine list. Very French. in Sausalito (40 minutes by ferry)
Yoshi's Japanese nouvelle cuisine, 510 Embarcadero West, Oakland (also one in San Francisco). Delicious. Spacious. Creative,

Horizons: best view of SFO skyline from Sausalito. Go early for lunch. nice seafood selection (truly American) tourists and Marin County alike eat here. 558 Bridgeway Rd.
